Fly Tying

The most important difference to note between a hackle stacker dry fly and a traditional parachute posted dry fly is the surface impression made by the wound hackle.

Our local free stone rivers are ready to give you one last “kiss” goodnight in the form of a great big clumsy caddis fly. The October Caddis is the last of the large insects to hatch from our local free stone rivers and are found in most (if not all) freestones in WestSlope country.

The Crane fly is an incredible “wild card” particularly in the month of September when anglers often find themselves between the trico/terrestrial time frame and the fall mayfly/October Caddis hatches.

Rest the fish for as long as it takes you to nip the hopper and replace it with the fur ant, and take extra care to make a delicate and drag free drift and watch that scrupulous customer rise from its layer and confidently suck pluck the unassuming ant. 

As far as modern risqué fly names go, perhaps no one has pushed the envelope like the Michigan transplant turned Madison Valley figurehead, Kelly Galloup. 

The Sex Dungeon, Silk Kitty, Butt Monkey, Stacked Blonde, Barley Legal, Butt Sump, Bank Tail, T&A, Pearl Necklace, Circus Peanut (you can only imagine that Peanut, was not in the original title) Tips Up (same here, with Tips) and the list actually keeps going!
