Recognizing WSCTU's Veterans — Brian Bonham

We’ll kick off our recognition of chapter vet’s by introducing you to the newest member of the WSCTU board, and the Veterans Committee co-chair, Brian Bonham!

I was introduced to fly fishing as a teenager by my dad. I imagine that like other fathers attempting to connect with their sons during those particularly angst-filled years, my dad saw an opportunity to trade my increasingly dark-colored wardrobe and punk rock albums for a pair of waders and the sounds of nature. It worked, and I never looked back. While I still listen to punk rock from time to time, the lessons learned from fly fishing with my dad have stuck with me and we will always share the bond formed from time spent on the water together.

Currently, I serve the great State of Montana and the United States of America as a member of the Montana Air National Guard.  I’m a loadmaster on the C-130H Hercules which affords me the opportunity to fly all over the country and the world.  My favorite flights are those over Big Sky Country though.  Skimming tree tops at 300 ft. AGL is a great way to scope out prime trout lies on the rivers we fly over during training missions here in our backyard.  I’m honored to serve as co-chair for the WSCTU Veterans Committee and look forward to getting to know all the veterans in the chapter in the coming year.
